Children’s FunFest! Encourages Better Nutrition
Uniting the community to support wellness for children
The Children’s Wellness Network’s Funfest! on Saturday, June 14th is a fun and informative family event geared toward promoting awareness of healthy eating and living. Proceeds will benefit Georgia Farm to School programs that build school gardens and enable sustainable education throughout Georgia. The event will feature nutrition-focused activities including kid-friendly chef demonstrations using fresh farm produce, a family nutrition relay race and plenty of free samples of healthful foods. Participants can pick up free recipes, games, educational resources and literature to help get their family started on a road to healthier eating. The Center for Ecoliteracy will have copies of their Blueprint for School Wellness Councils available for parent groups.
Edu-tainment at the event includes shows by Soul featuring live mammals and birds of prey, a tour of the gardens with a master gardener and herbalist and a special visit from Captain Planet. Dance, yoga and Tai Chi demonstrations will be held to reflect the spirit of Funfest. The Center for Puppetry Arts will present puppet shows and a traveling artist will exhibit artwork reflecting the theme of the day. The grand finale will be a showing of the film, Two Angry Moms, and a question and answer period following the film with director Amy Kalafa, one of the original Two Angry Moms.
